Are cats being devalued in our society?

The number of pet abandonment cases have been in an upward trend over the past 5 years, half of which involve cats. Minister of state for National Development Tan Kiat How says that individuals found to abandon their pets were issues fines, sentenced or even jailed. The government looks towards reviewing penalties under the Animals and Birds Act to ensure that they deter pet abandonment. Under the act, individuals found guilty face a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or a jail term of 12 months.
