The devaluation of birds as living things:

Birds are often neglected when it comes to animal welfare discourse, and pet ownership standards often fall short. ACRES found that 60% of bird shops in Singapore fail to meet the birds' basic welfare conditions. Cruel conditions, such as the cramming of 49 birds in a single cage, were found in many bird stores. Many birds end up sick, injured, and malnourished. It is high time we improve the welfare standards for birds and ensure that they are adhered to.
